Sisters Shikhana McKnight and Cushanda Mapp opened Salaam Ice Cream Parlor in August, 2017. Through the SBDC, McKnight and Mapp participated in a Social Impact & Community Development program with Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health to build capacity and capabilities needed for procurement opportunities. The program also provided a grant which helped pay overdue rent due to COVID-19, and purchase PPE and other social distancing items. Despite COVID-19, Salaam Ice Cream Parlor is living their dream.
