UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

SBDC Helps Struggling Small Businesses Fight to Keep the Doors Open in Yuma

The Wall Street Journal talked with Your Greens owner Jarmy Rodriguez, who opened a restaurant just as the pandemic hit. Working with the SBDC to obtain disaster relief, converting to takeout and limiting hours helped, but the struggle continues.

ACCELERATORS + INCUBATORS

We have applied for National Science Foundation SBIR Phase I funding for our vascular surgical simulator. The SBDC works with us at CEI, a biosciences incubator. They provided input on our proposal and will help plan our commercialization strategy.

Superstition Meadery Expands Global Distribution and Opens Tasting Room During Pandemic

Owners Jeff and Jen Herbert created 62 jobs in 2020, pivoted to online sales, debuted a full-service restaurant in Phoenix, and expect to see a sales increase of 20-30% over 2019 based on expanding distribution of their award-winning meads and ciders made in their Prescott production facility. SBDC assistance helped secure an SBA loan and provided strategic planning, export and HR expertise. The Herberts were named SBA Small Business Persons of the Year 2019.

TECH DEVELOPMENT

The SBDC's planning and pitch development assistance helped us win funding at the 2019 Venture Madness and Arizona Innovation Challenge Venture Ready Accelerator competitions and successfully close a $900,000 investor funding round.
